Children’s social care services rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted – with real impact for families
Thursday, 24 April 2025
We're proud to announce another successful outcome from Ofsted, which has once again rated our children’s social care services as Good, following its latest inspection.
The report, published today (Thursday 24 April), highlights the our ongoing commitment to delivering high-quality support for children and families, with inspectors praising improvements made since the last inspection in 2022.
Ofsted commended us for addressing previously identified areas for development and for strengthening services further, especially through sustained investment in support for the most vulnerable children. Leaders within Children’s Services were recognised for their continued advocacy for children across the council and their role in championing positive outcomes.
Inspectors particularly praised our focus on building strong, trusting relationships with families, which is helping to make a real difference to children’s lives. The quality of direct work with children was also highlighted, along with targeted support for young carers, children at risk of exploitation, and 16- and 17-year-olds presenting as homeless.
Children in care were found to be making strong progress, living in safe and stable homes, while care leavers benefit from sensitive and effective support as they transition into adulthood.
The report also highlighted the effectiveness of senior leadership, citing a robust and accurate self-evaluation process and well-developed plans to address areas for continued improvement.
Councillor Steve Owen, our Executive Member for Children’s Services, said:
We are absolutely delighted Ofsted have recognised the hard work, dedication and passion of our staff and partners in these inspections. This includes excellent leaders, managers, practitioners and support staff in Children’s Services. We will be working towards an Outstanding rating at the next inspection in three years’ time.
Children’s social care is one of the most important services a council can provide. Most of us hope we never need their help, but they make the most incredible difference to children and family's lives, so it is vital to those we support.
Whilst we are proud of the ratings, we won't be resting on our laurels – we are fully committed to continuing to improve, and we will continue to work with partners, care experienced young people and our amazing foster carers to provide the very best support for children and families in Central Bedfordshire.
