Vintage vibes and homemade delights: Silsoe Horticultural Centre Café reopens

Thursday, 17 April 2025

A community gem has had a heart warming transformation.

The café at Silsoe Horticultural Centre has reopened its doors for the season, now with a fresh modern feel, lovingly refurbished by staff, volunteers and the adults who attend the Centre.

Using reclaimed wood and a keen eye for detail, the team has given the space a cozy new look, complete with vintage china to create a warm, inviting atmosphere.

The café officially reopened for the season on Thursday 17 April, and will welcome visitors every Thursday from 10:30am to 2:30pm. People are invited to come and see the incredible transformation, enjoy the lovingly made cakes, sandwiches, and preserves—all handmade on-site by the dedicated team.

Councillor Mark Smith, Executive Member for Adult Social Care and Health said:

We’re so proud of what the team at Silsoe Horticultural Centre has achieved. This café makeover isn’t just about a new look, it’s about showcasing the skills, creativity, and passion of the people who make this place special. I’d encourage everyone to pop in, enjoy a cuppa and some cake, and step back in time and enjoy the welcoming space that reflects the heart and hard work of everyone involved.

In the summer you can also browse and buy freshly picked, home-grown fruit and vegetables at the Produce Shop, which is open daily, Monday to Friday, 10:30am to 2:30pm.

All proceeds from the shop and café support the Centre's ongoing work in providing meaningful opportunities for adults with learning difficulties. The team also welcomes new volunteers—whether your strengths are in gardening, cooking, or practical skills, there’s always a way to get involved and make a difference.

Pop in, enjoy the transformation, and stay for the cake. We can’t wait to welcome you!
