Illegal tobacco and vape seller closed in Leighton Buzzard following community complaints
Friday, 27 September 2024
We have issued a Closure Order against a shop in Leighton Buzzard for selling illegal tobacco and vapes, with the assistance of a sniffer dog during the investigation.
On 25 September 2024, Luton Magistrates Court granted the three-month order against King Vape Leighton Express, 1b High Street Leighton Buzzard, LU7 1DP. This order, executed in collaboration with Bedfordshire Police, prohibits entry into the premises, addressing ongoing concerns from members of the public, local businesses and schools.
The action comes after multiple reports of illegal sales of tobacco and vapes, including to underage individuals. We have undertaken three visits to the premises between May 2023 and September 2024. On 24 September 2024, officers seized a total of 483 illegal vapes, 617 packets of cigarettes and 112 pouches of illegal tobacco with the help of sniffer dog Griffin.
Councillor John Baker, Executive Member responsible for Public Protection, said:
Ensuring the safety of our communities is paramount. The illegal activities of King Vape Leighton Express have had a detrimental impact on residents and local businesses. This Closure Order demonstrates our commitment to addressing community concerns and taking firm action against businesses involved in criminal activities. We are dedicated to safeguarding our residents and supporting legitimate businesses. We extend our appreciation to community members who provided crucial evidence leading to this closure.
