We raised the flag in honour of Armed Forces Day

We raised the flag for our service men and women ahead of Armed Forces Day at a special ceremony held today (24 June).
The flag raising ceremony, which was held at our offices in Chicksands, was attended by the Lord-Lieutenant of Bedfordshire, Helen Nellis, who raised the special Armed Forces Day flag, the High Sheriff of Bedfordshire, Meryl Dolling and Chairman of the Council, Councillor Brian Saunders.
Other guests included Leader of the Council, Councillor James Jamieson, and Councillor Mark Versallion, who is also the council’s Armed Forces Community Covenant Champion.
Specially invited commanding officers and personnel from the Joint Intelligent Training Group (Chicksands), RAF Henlow, reserve and cadet forces and members of armed forces support organisations were also present at the event, along with standard bearers from the Royal British Legion.
Councillor James Jamieson, Leader of Central Bedfordshire Council said: "It is always a moving occasion when we take time to show support for our armed forces and it was a great honour to hold this ceremony at the Central Bedfordshire Council offices once again. I’m delighted that we were joined by our serving and former armed forces today, to pay tribute to them and the voluntary organisations who look after them and their families."
Councillor Mark Versallion, who was also a naval officer in the reserves, said: "Now in its 11th year, Armed Forces Day, is a time to reflect on conflicts past and present, and honour the sacrifices made by those who serve or have served."
Armed Forces Day will fall on Saturday 30 June this year.
