Domestic abuse guidance for schools

How we help schools deal with domestic abuse

We have a duty to support those affected by domestic abuse and we must ensure our staff are supported.

As such, we have developed domestic abuse guidance to help people within schools who may be experiencing abuse, or who have concerns about someone who may be being abused. This guidance applies to all staff based within our maintained community, voluntary controlled, nursery and special schools.

The guidance provides schools with information on what abuse is, how to seek support, what a manager can do, how to start a conversation and respond to someone you are concerned about.

If you are affected by domestic abuse, or are working with someone who needs support, you can contact the 24-hour National Domestic Violence Helpline on 0808 2000 247.
