ESOL English courses

Learn with our ESOL English courses

ESOL (English for speakers of other languages) courses are designed for residents whose first language isn’t English. Whether you're just starting to learn English or want to build on the skills you already have, ESOL courses can help you gain confidence using English in everyday life, education, and employment.

Bedfordshire Employment and Skills Academy (BESA) offers ESOL courses and qualifications from Entry Level up to Level 1. Courses are delivered in person in Bedford, Dunstable and Houghton Regis.

These courses focus on improving your:

  • speaking 
  • listening 
  • reading 
  • writing 

You can progress onto completing accredited ESOL qualifications in these areas when you are ready.

How to apply on an ESOL course

To join one of our courses:

  1. complete an enquiry form to let us know you're interested
  2. an adviser will contact you to discuss the ESOL courses available
  3. if you decide you want to start a course, we'll invite you to an introductory ESOL workshop
  4. at the workshop, we’ll support you to complete an enrolment form and a short assessment to find out your current English level
  5. once your place is confirmed, you can start your course
