Direct payments are payments made to parents or carers of disabled children so they can arrange support themselves instead of needing us to arrange services.
They give families more choice and control over how their child’s support is provided.
Direct payments are provided under the Children Act 1989 and may also be available to young people aged 16 or 17 who are able to manage them with appropriate support.
A social worker must assess your child’s needs before direct payments can be offered.
Direct payments can be used to arrange services such as personal care, short breaks or support to take part in activities.
