Consultation: Proposed leisure centre in Leighton-Linslade

Timeframe – proposed Leighton-Linslade leisure centre consultation

Consultation closed: Friday, 22 July 2022
Consultation opened: Thursday, 28 April 2022

Consultation and community engagement will start in April 2022 and will help inform plans. We are keen to receive your feedback on the proposals

You can meet members of the project team, view plans and ask questions on the following dates:

  • 14 May (10am until 3pm) – Tiddenfoot Leisure Centre
  • 17 May (10am until 2pm) – Leighton Buzzard Market
  • 21 June (6pm until 7:30pm) – Online meeting (Microsoft Teams)
  • 2 July (10am until 3pm) – Leighton Buzzard Library Theatre

All the engagement sessions are drop-in, except for the online Microsoft Teams meeting where people will need to email partnerships.communityengagementteam@centralbedfordshire.gov.uk to book a place.

Once the consultation has closed, the feedback will be considered and a consultation report prepared which shows what residents said about the scheme. Detailed proposals will then be drawn up and presented to our Executive committee in autumn 2022.

Subject to approval, a planning application will be submitted in autumn 2022. A statutory planning consultation period will then begin, allowing residents a further opportunity to comment on the proposals via our website. When the consultation is complete the proposal will be considered by our Development Management committee later in 2022.

Subject to approval, construction of the new leisure centre will start in 2023 with completion provisionally scheduled for late summer 2025.

The new facilities will replace those in the existing Tiddenfoot Leisure Centre. To ensure continuous leisure provision is available for residents, the existing centre will stay open until the new centre is complete. At this point, residents will benefit from the cutting-edge new sports and community provision.

Once the new facility is available for use, the existing centre will be decommissioned as a leisure centre and the future use of the current building will be considered.
