Our SEND objectives
Our wider plan for SEND (special educational needs and disabilities) aims to make sure every child and young person gets the right support, in the right place, at the right time.
Our priorities
Increase specialist school places
We’re responding to a 94% rise in Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) between 2017 and 2023. We plan to increase the number of specialist places from 1,080 in 2023 to nearly 1,550 by 2028.
Promote inclusion
We’re supporting mainstream schools to be more inclusive through training, resources and Additionally Resourced Provisions (ARPs). We want more children to attend schools close to home.
Develop infrastructure
We’re expanding existing special schools and ARPs, building new schools where needed, and improving facilities at schools like Ivel Valley and Chiltern School.
Plan strategically and work together
We’re working with parents, schools, health services and other partners. We review our plans every year based on data and feedback. This work aligns with our SEND Strategy 2022–2025.
