Why we need more special school places
The number of children and young people in Central Bedfordshire with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) has increased by 94% between 2017 and 2023.
This means more children need specialist school places, especially those with:
- severe learning difficulties
- profound and multiple learning disabilities (this is now sometimes known as profound intellectual and multiple disabilities)
- autism, cerebral palsy or Down’s syndrome
- complex social, emotional and mental health needs
Ivel Valley School and College is already full. Forecasts show that demand will continue to grow.
We want to provide new SEND places in the area where the increasing need is forecast.
