Moving Up – Skills For Care

Moving Up – Social Work and Social Care Academy

Skills for Care has developed the Moving Up programme to support Black and Asian minoritised groups who are managers or aspiring managers looking to progress in their career.

Delivered through blended learning – a combination of self-learning modules and three live online sessions. The programme will provide you with the tools to focus and understand your organisation better to help you shape and influence your career progression.

Gain an increased understanding of who you are, your strengths and your areas for development and a variety of techniques to help overcome any personal challenges you may have. It will focus on increasing your confidence and self-belief, to allow you to grow and progress to where you want to be in your career.

Feedback from attendees

Through doing the course I felt my confidence improve and I now find myself speaking up and taking leadership more comfortably when chairing meetings.

The course enabled me to feel surer about my own decisions and more able to deal confidently with issues of conflict in a positive and productive way.

It was of great benefit to be on the course with peers from other organisations as we learnt a lot from each other and our different situations.

The learning on leadership and management and ‘career anchors’ emphasised techniques on how to climb the corporate ladder, what your organisation might be looking for in management and how to pitch yourself towards this.

Manager feedback

Participant has clearly enjoyed the course and we have discussed the impact of what she has learned throughout. Since attending the course she has reflected on her approach and has made efforts to adapt her communication styles when working with different individuals and groups where appropriate. She has gained confidence and is an excellent example of mature reflection, something I believe she has further developed while accessing the course. It has been a useful opportunity for her, and she has gained confidence from attending with other peers.
