National Institute for Health and Care Research Doctoral Fellowship opportunity – Social Work and Social Care Academy
The NIHR has published its latest application process for the Doctoral Fellowship programme, where an application can be put forward for a fully funded Doctorate.
The strategic themes for applications are:

- Public health
- Mental health
- Health Science data
The NIHR Doctoral Fellowship supports individuals to undertake a PhD in an area of research with the NIHR’s Remit for Personal Awards. Doctoral Fellowships are three years Whole Time Equivalent (WTE) in duration and may be taken up on a part time basis of between 50 and 100% WTE. Applicants from social care practice can include up to 20% practice time as part of the Fellowship, to ensure the maintenance of their practice competence.
The award will fund the full salary of the award holder for the entire duration of the fellowship, as well as costs for the approved research project, costs for a suitable training and development plan which will lead to further professional development, associated conference fees (up to £3,000).
For applications submitted to Round 12, awards are available to start on the 1st of the month between April 2025 and September 2025.
