Ampthill and Flitwick Green Wheel consultation 2026

Action plan, funding and timescale – Ampthill and Flitwick Green Wheel consultation

Consultation closes: Thursday 3 September 2026
Consultation opened: Thursday 25 June 2026

The final adopted masterplan will include further details based on the proposals set out in the main document. This action plan will be informed by the results of the public consultation and completed once the consultation has closed.

The action plan will be structured with resourcing as a key consideration. It will aim to deliver high-quality, value for money outcomes while remaining realistic about what can be achieved within the available timeframe and resources. However, it will not be limited to existing resources; it will also explore new ways of working and identify creative funding opportunities.

Funding

Many of the proposed routes will follow existing public footpaths and rights of way. However, some sections will need improvement. This may include upgrades to surfaces and, where needed, wider paths so that routes are accessible, safe and comfortable for everyone to use.

The project will be delivered using a mix of funding sources. This includes money collected from nearby new developments, as well as funding we've already set aside. We will also look for additional external funding, such as grants from organisations like Active Travel England and the Walk, Wheel and Cycle Trust, to help ensure the full network can be delivered to a high standard.

Timescale

Subject to the feedback from the public consultation, the first phase of work would be improvements and upgrades to existing routes. This is anticipated to take at least a year.

The second phase would be the new spokes of added paths and routes. The third phase would be the new routes for horse riders/cyclists where no new route is currently available/defined yet.
