Place Academy roles in Planning - Planning Delivery and Local Plans

Planning Delivery and Local Plans

Within Planning there are two routes available:

  • Planning Delivery
  • Local Plans

Planning Delivery is about dealing with planning applications, whereas Local Plans is about helping to develop planning policy to guide development in the local area.

The Planning programme provides intensive training on your chosen route to enable you to develop your understanding of the planning system, how it works and its critical role in delivering sustainable development.

You will gain experience alongside your level 7 degree apprenticeship in Town Planning (Royal Town Panning Institute accredited). This is a two year part time course, which is fully funded and will provide you with the knowledge, skills and behaviours to become a Chartered Town Planner (link takes you to information on the RTPI website).

During your first year you will undertake placements in a number of specialist planning areas such as Enforcement, Minerals and Waste, Highways Development Management and with our Technical Specialists. This will provide valuable insight into the role these areas have in the planning system and help to broaden your knowledge of the whole planning system.

Our planning roles are career graded and allow you to progress from Trainee Planner level to Planning Officer while studying.

You can expect to deal with a variety of work, each year building on your knowledge and allowing opportunities for progression. You will have a number of milestones set out in order to progress to the next level.

You will also have opportunities to shadow senior officers and be involved in strategic applications.
