How to get help for a hoarder in private rented housing
Email psh@centralbedfordshire.gov.uk, if you're concerned for someone who is hoarding in a private rented property.
Dealing with hoarding is a delicate matter, it often requires a careful approach involving our social care and housing teams, other housing services, a cleaning company and family members.
The clutter can pose a health risk to the person and anyone who lives in or visits their house. For example, it can:
- make cleaning very difficult, leading to unhygienic conditions
- encourage rodent or insect infestations which can affect adjoining properties
- be a fire risk and block exits in the event of a fire
- cause trips and falls
- collapse on people, if kept in large piles
