Repatriation of deceased
Anyone wishing to move a body out of England and Wales (including to Scotland) must have authority from a Coroner. This applies even if the death was completely natural and was not otherwise reported to the Coroner.
Repatriating a body
If you wish to repatriate your relative’s body, you should speak to your funeral director, who will make the necessary arrangements on your behalf.
The funeral director will need to submit a notice of intention to remove a body out of England (PDF) (Removal Notice Form 104 (Rev), commonly known as Form 104) to the Coroner.
A copy of the death certificate must also be provided to the Coroner’s Office, unless there is an ongoing Coroner’s investigation.
You should not book any flights until the Coroner has signed and returned the relevant form.
Cremation ashes
You do not need authority from a Coroner to repatriate cremation ashes.
