Conduct in and around the Court

Please obey all signs relating to ‘Staff Only’ areas of the Court, and please note that all reasonable instructions by Court Staff must be followed.

Please note, only water is to be consumed in the Court room.

Abusive behaviour towards Staff or other Court Users will not be tolerated, and may, in worse cases, may lead to prosecution. Please make HM Coroner or Staff aware of any such behaviour.

The Court House is a no-smoking building.

Appropriate dress for Court attendance is expected.

Allocation of rooms on a Court day

A private comfortable room is available for families. The room is relatively large with sofas, a small desk, and a large monitor to allow for live streaming from the Court (should this be required). There is a small box of children’s games and books.

Other Interested persons also may access private rooms, if availability allows; however, this cannot be guaranteed and will depend on the Court schedule and the number of Interested Persons. Please speak with the Coroner’s Officer in advance of the hearing regarding any specific requests.

Infrared (IR)Assistive Listening System

An infrared (IR) assistive listening system is in place at The Court House. An IR radiator transmits audio to anyone with an IR receiver in line of sight of the radiator (within the Court). Our Neck Loop Lanyard acts as a reliable and effective way for listeners with telecoil-equipped hearing aids or cochlear implants to use the assistive listening system. Alternatively, it can be used by other users wanting to plug in the headphones.  Please speak with the Court Officers if you think anyone attending court would benefit from its use.

Court iPad and access to disclosure on the day

The Inquest bundle can be provided on an iPad for use in the Court. Please speak to a Court Officer if you think you would benefit from access to one of these.

Local facilities

There are currently no catering facilities available at The Court House for visitors (other than water). There are however local facilities, including cafes, within a ten minutes’ walk of the building. Please don’t hesitate to ask the Court Officer or Court Support Volunteer should you require directions.

Parking

There is limited parking on site, however we may be able to secure you a parking space at Parkside Hall, which is walking distance to The Court House. Should you wish to request use of one of these spaces, then please liaise with the Coroner’s Office in advance of your attendance. There is also free on-street parking on Woburn Street.
