Best Start in Life Plan

Giving every child the best possible start in life

Every child deserves the best possible start in life, and every family should feel supported.

The early years are critical in shaping children’s health, wellbeing, development, and future opportunities. Our Best Start in Life Local Plan sets out how we will work with families, communities and partners to support children from conception through to age five, making it easy to find help and focus on what families need, when they need it.

Over the coming years, we’re bringing together services, schools, health professionals and community organisations so families can get the right help at the right time. Through Best Start Family Hubs, access to high-quality early education and childcare, and strong partnerships with health and community services, we aim to support children to grow, learn and thrive.

Just as importantly, we want to help families build independence and resilience; giving parents and carers the knowledge, confidence and local support they need to support their children now and in the future. By investing early and working together, we can strengthen families, reduce inequalities and help every child get off to the best possible start in life.

The plan focuses on key areas to improve outcomes for children and families and outlines how we’ll work in partnership to build a joined-up system that supports families at the right time and in the right way.

Together, we hope to improve outcomes for babies, young children, and their families across Central Bedfordshire.
