Secure funding streams to allow imminent delivery of the improvements and repairs.
Supporting details
This junction has been deteriorating over the last several years with the significant increase of housing growth in the immediate area. The several points of subsidence in the Northbound carriageway, which have been known to the Council for a number of years, cause the volumes of HGVs tip precariously to the left which causes immediate overcorrections into oncoming traffic. The proximity of the Southbound passing lane to the Chapel End Road junction, coupled with the more recent introduction of average speed cameras between Wilstead turn and Wixams, has significantly reduced the amount of safe gaps for vehicles to turn right from Chapel End Road to safely access the A6 carriageway.
The stretch of road needs urgent attention to improve the safety of road local road users. We are seeing significant increases of serious accidents in this location, with two road closures required in the last week. As a community we are becoming increasingly concerned that if immediate action is not taken to improve the safety of the junction, with reparations to the subsidence, that the probability of a fatality is becoming increasingly likely. We request urgent action to avoid this becoming an eventuality! - Start date
