Biggleswade parish has a town council. It is warded and has 15 seats on the council. The forecast planned development to March 2030 is estimated at a further 182 dwellings which will generate approximately 313 additional residents over the next 5 years.

The parish boundary adjoins the neighbouring parishes of Astwick, Dunton, Edworth, Langford, Northill, Old Warden, Sandy, Southill and Sutton. The parish contains the Central Bedfordshire wards of Biggleswade East, Biggleswade West and Sandy.

Since the creation of Central Bedfordshire there has only been one contested election in 2011 in the Holme Ward, only one in 2011 in the Stratton Ward. Elections have been held on three occasions in the Ivel Ward. Where there have been insufficient candidates throughout the period the vacant seats were authorised to be filled by co-option.

Statutory changes since the 2017/18 review

The Central Bedfordshire Council (Reorganisation of Community Governance) Order 2018; amended the number of councillors for the parish wards of Biggleswade (Holme Ward from 3 to 5 and Ivel Ward from 7 to 5).

The Central Bedfordshire (Electoral Changes) Order 2021 amended the number of councillors for the parish wards of Biggleswade (Ivel Ward from 5 to 4 and Stratton Ward from 5 to 6).

The property Brook Cottage is in a polling district of the parish of Langford but is geographically in the parish of Biggleswade Holme Ward. Consideration should be given to rectify this anomaly.
