Extend and improve the current footways to ensure Langford Garden Centre is accessible to all.
Supporting details
The garden centre is a vital amenity for the village of Langford and should be safely accessible to everyone.
The current pedestrian route to the garden centre is not suitable for pedestrians or wheelchair users. The pavement on the south side of Langford Road stops approximately twenty metres before the entrance to the garden centre, meaning that a pedestrian or wheelchair user has to attempt to negotiate a narrow, uneven and often muddy path.
The location of the dropped kerb on the north side of Langford Road means that a wheelchair user is forced to traverse the road diagonally and at the same time be in direct conflict with vehicular traffic at the junction of Langford Road and the garden centre.
Providing safe and accessible footways will ensure that Central Bedfordshire Council are performing their public sector equality duty required by the 2010 Equality Act and ensure that an important village amenity, one of the few retail outlets in Langford, is accessible to all. - Start date
