e-petitions - Traffic Calming measures needed in Warren Lane, Clophill

We would like:

  • a no right-turn into the lane from the A6 going north; thereby reducing the volume of traffic
  • a 40mph speed limit along the length of the lane
  • average speed limit cameras installed using solar technology
  • speed humps along the length of the lane as per Shefford High Street; as traffic management see fit

Supporting details:

Central Bedfordshire Council has recognised Warren Lane as an accident hotspot. There has been significant increase in traffic over the years; especially since the redevelopment of the Flying Horse roundabout. A number of serious accidents in the last 2 months (requiring blue light services to attend) which led to the lane and the junctions with the A507 and A6 being closed; leads residents to believe the road is no longer safe. These accidents affect the village as traffic is diverted into the village when the A507 is blocked.

The matter has been referred to the ward councillors and the Clophill Parish Council and both are supportive of calming measures.

CBC has previously made changes to the speed limit within the last 3 years which have been ineffective but recognises the lane is in the top 20 accident hotspots in Central Bedfordshire.
