- What the course covers
-
This is an introductory course, aimed at those who wish to start a career in support work in schools, for example as a teaching assistant or learning support assistant.
You'll begin by exploring the role and value of volunteering, then build your knowledge of how schools operate, the key legislation you’ll need to understand, and how to support children’s development and learning in the classroom.
- Who the course is suitable for
-
This course is ideal for individuals who are interested in starting a career in education, particularly as a teaching assistant or learning support assistant in a school setting. It does not require previous experience working in schools.
- How the course is completed
-
This course is delivered over 12 sessions spread across 6 months, offering a flexible and supportive introduction to working in schools. Each session is structured to build your knowledge and skills progressively, combining in-person learning with digital resources.
Alongside the taught elements, learners will take part in a volunteering placement at the host school, providing valuable hands-on experience and a chance to observe and support classroom activities. This practical element reinforces the learning and offers real insight into the role of a teaching assistant.
Throughout the course, learners will complete written assignments and access e-learning materials between sessions. This blended delivery method supports different learning styles and enables you to fit study around other commitments while building practical confidence in a school setting.
