Bereavement support - The Coroners' Courts Support Service

Organisation

The Coroners' Courts Support Service

Type of support

The Coroners’ Courts Support Service (CCSS) is an independent voluntary organisation whose trained volunteers offer emotional support and practical help to bereaved families, witnesses and others attending an Inquest at a coroner’s court. Whether you are a bereaved family member, witness or interested person, the volunteers will be there to greet you when you arrive at the court. They will explain what is going to happen and show you the building and the facilities. They will answer any questions or if more appropriate, will arrange for you to speak to a coroner’s or court officer. The volunteers can also signpost to other organisations that can offer any long-term support that may be required. The CCSS's telephone support service provides volunteers who can deliver specialised local support about the court.
