Evidence and supporting documents – new minerals and waste plan

This page lists the evidence studies and supporting documents that guide the review of the minerals and waste plan.

Bedford, Central Bedfordshire and Luton councils are also preparing new local plans for their own areas that cover all other types of development. Those plans are supported by a wider range of evidence, details of this are available from each council’s local plan web pages. The Bedfordshire Minerals and Waste Plan draws from this wider pool of evidence (e.g. housing targets and flood risk).

Authority monitoring report

This provides an overview of the performance and delivery of current policies for minerals and waste development.

This report monitors the supply of aggregate minerals (sand and gravel) to meet targets.

Related to the local aggregate assessment, this report looks at the supply of aggregate minerals across the East of England (including Bedfordshire).

Silica sands study

This study considers the availability of minerals for specific industrial uses. In Bedfordshire, this relates to high-quality sand known as silica.

Waste capacity study

This looks at the future need for waste management facilities and the capacity of existing facilities.  This study is currently in progress.

Integrated impact assessment

The impacts of policies within the new Bedfordshire Minerals and Waste Plan need to be understood. This report sets-out the likely impacts. The first stage in this work is a scoping report that will be used as the framework to assess policies and site allocations. This assessment is currently in progress.
