We work with owners of empty properties to help bring them back into use by offering practical advice and, where available, financial support for renovation work.
Where owners refuse to address long-term empty properties, we may use enforcement powers as a last resort to bring them back into use.
Why empty homes are a problem
Long-term empty homes can:
- cause nuisance to neighbours
- become unsafe
- attract vandalism and anti-social behaviour
- reduce the value of neighbouring properties
We work with owners to help them bring empty properties back into use through advice, practical support and renovation assistance where available. Most owners choose to work with us voluntarily, so formal enforcement is only used in exceptional circumstances.
If you are concerned about an empty property in your area, please let us know.
