Consultation opened: Monday 19 October 2026

We are responsible for coordinating school admissions for all community and voluntary controlled schools in the area. We are consulting with schools, governing bodies, school trusts, parents, carers, the local community and neighbouring councils about proposed changes to admission arrangements for 4 schools in Central Bedfordshire for the 2028 to 2029 school year.

The proposed changes relate to Silsoe CofE VC Lower School, Houghton Regis Primary School, Thornhill Primary School and Tithe Farm Primary School. Your views are important and will help us make informed decisions about these proposals.

Background

Every year, we must ensure that all children are offered a school place fairly and consistently. We also have to consult when we propose changes to admissions arrangements, such as how children are prioritised for places or the number of places available in a school.

Current standard admission arrangements

We operate a standard admissions policy for the majority of community and voluntary controlled schools within Central Bedfordshire. There are some schools which have variations to their admissions policy from the standard. The current oversubscription criteria are applied where the number of applications exceeds the number of places available.

We are now consulting on proposed changes to admission arrangements for four schools for the academic year 2028 to 2029.
