The following can go in your garden waste bin:
- grass cuttings
- plants and weeds
- flowers
- prunings
- hedge clippings
- leaves and bark
- vase plants
- pond plants
- shredded tree and shrub waste
All garden waste must fit inside the wheelie bin we provide. Cut larger branches, trunks and plants into smaller pieces so they fit. We will not collect waste left beside the bin.
The following cannot go in your garden waste bin:
- vegetable peelings
- food waste
- compostable or biodegradable bags and packaging
- plant pots
- polystyrene trays
- turf
- soil
- rubble, tiles and decking
- animal bedding
- pet waste
- general household waste
- empty compost and soil bags
- garden furniture
- shredded paper – put this in your recycling bin, inside an old cereal box or envelope, or wrapped in newspaper
- Japanese knotweed
Japanese knotweed
Do not put Japanese knotweed in your garden waste bin. If you have it in your garden, you must control it and prevent it from spreading to neighbouring properties.
Japanese knotweed is controlled waste and must be treated and disposed of in accordance with the Environmental Protection Act 1990. Contact the Environment Agency for more information.
