A dropped kerb is a lowered access point in the pavement and is required if you wish to drive over a pavement onto your property. It is illegal to do so without one. The process involves lowering and strengthening the verge to protect the pavement and the infrastructure beneath.

You will need permission from our highways team for a dropped kerb. This will require a specific dropped kerb application.

When you need planning permission
Planning permission will only be required for a dropped kerb if:
- the dropped kerb is to be provided from a classified road – check if your road is classified
- if the dropped kerb would cross a larger-than-standard highway verge – a standard highway verge would normally be approximately 1 metre to 2 metres deep
