Summer of fun for children with special educational needs and/or disabilities

Monday, 26 September 2022

Over the summer holidays, we facilitated a range of summer activities specifically for children and young people with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND).

In partnership with Spectrum Community Arts and Imagination Dance Sensory and Activity Workshops, sessions ranged from exclusive swimming sessions at multiple pools across Central Bedfordshire, relaxed screening at Grove Theatre in Dunstable, to countryside activities at Rushmere Country Park – there was something for everyone.

The sessions were extremely popular and enjoyed by many, below are a few comments from some of the children who went along to the sessions:

It was the best! I liked doing dancing and art. I want to come back here.

It made me feel happy. I loved the whole week and made friends.

Plans for future activities for children and young people with SEND over the school holidays are being looked at - with an aim to offer as many sessions to as many children as possible.

Councillor Sue Clark, our Executive Member for Families, Education and Children, said:

Over the school summer holidays, we put in place a range of different activities and sessions as we know how important they are for both children with SEND and also their parent carers. Putting children at the centre of everything we do is our top priority and I’m so pleased to hear how well received these were from the children that took part.
