Consultation launched seeking views on the future of Ridgmont Lower School

Wednesday, 13 September 2023

A nine-week Have Your Say consultation is now open until November 17, seeking parents' and residents’ views on the future of Ridgmont Lower School.

A report, discussed by our Executive Committee last month, showed that the school has a low number of pupils currently attending the school and that data indicates that this is likely to continue. This will impact on teaching, delivery of the curriculum, staffing and the school’s overall financial viability.

Ridgmont Lower School opened, as usual, last week for the start of the new school term and will continue to serve the community for the full academic year.

We're hosting two drop-in sessions and one online so that parents and members of the public can us officers questions about the Have Your Say consultation. These will be on:

  • October 30 (3:30pm to 5:30pm) at Ridgmont Lower School
  • October 31 (6:30pm to 7:30pm) online via Microsoft Teams
  • November 1 (3:30pm till 5:30pm) at Ridgmont Lower School

Councillor Hayley Whitaker, our Executive Member for Families Education and Children, said:

We’d like to get as many views as possible from parents and the community on what the future of Ridgmont Lower School should be.

We are really interested to hear the views of all residents involved with the school so that we can understand how they want to move forward. The key message is that we are very much listening.

We also have a dedicated web page  which we will update with any new information on the future of Ridgmont Lower School.
