We're launching the sale of used electrical items at the Reuse Shop at Thorn Turn Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC) from Monday, 8 June.
The new initiative gives unwanted electrical items a second life so that residents can access affordable household goods and reduce waste.
Available items will include a range of reused:
- kitchen appliances
- entertainment equipment e.g. televisions, radios, CD players, Hi‑Fi systems
- DIY tools
- garden equipment such as electric lawnmowers
The electrical items in working order are safety checked, ahead of resale.
Stock will vary regularly depending on donations received, meaning residents are encouraged to visit frequently to see what is available.
Councillor Tracey Wye said:
Many electrical items still have plenty of life left in them, and by reusing and reselling them through our Thorn Turn Reuse Shop, as part of our Waste Strategy, we’re helping residents pick up affordable items while preventing usable goods from going to waste.
This is a great example of how small changes can make a big difference to reducing waste and supporting sustainability across Central Bedfordshire.
We hope residents will support the scheme, whether that’s by donating suitable items at our recycling centres or by visiting the shop to see what bargains they can find.
The initiative forms part of our ongoing commitment to reduce waste, increase reuse and support more sustainable living across Central Bedfordshire.
