The investment will transform key areas of the leisure centre, creating larger and more modern activity spaces, expanding fitness provision and improving the overall experience for visitors.
The improvements include:
- expansion of the fitness suite to provide additional gym space and equipment
- a larger Reformer Pilates studio
- a doubling of the size of the wellbeing studio to support larger classes and health programmes
- improvements to the sports hall to increase flexibility for group exercise and physical activity sessions
- an enlarged and enhanced café area
- a redesigned reception area to improve accessibility, circulation and the customer experience
The project will make better use of the building's existing footprint, helping the centre meet growing demand from Biggleswade's expanding population while supporting residents to live healthier, more active lives.
Saxon Leisure Centre is the latest of our leisure centres to receive major investment following a programme of improvements.
The expanded wellbeing studio will provide greater capacity for a range of activities, including programmes that support public health priorities such as cardiac rehabilitation, cancer rehabilitation and wellbeing initiatives. The improvements will also help the centre remain competitive and continue attracting new users.

Saxon Leisure Centre is at the heart of the Biggleswade community, and I'm really pleased we've been able to agree this investment. We know how important the centre is to local people, whether they're using the gym, taking part in a fitness class, meeting friends for a coffee or using it to support their health and wellbeing.
These improvements will give residents more space, better facilities and an even wider range of activities to enjoy. It's about making sure the centre continues to meet the needs of our growing town and remains a place that people want to use for many years to come.
The improvements are expected to be completed during 2027 and works will be carefully phased to minimise disruption to customers.
Developed in partnership with Everyone Active, the project will be funded through section 106 developer contributions secured specifically for improvements at the centre, together with capital funding from Everyone Active.
