Residents in Ampthill and Flitwick can help shape plans for a new green wheel – accessible walking and cycling routes linking both towns with the surrounding countryside.
We're launched a 10-week public consultation on the long-term vision, which would create a circular green network linking communities with local nature reserves, open spaces and rural landscapes through a combination of enhanced existing paths and new routes.

As well as encouraging healthier lifestyles and more sustainable travel, the plans aim to improve access to towns, nature and enhance local biodiversity across the area.
We're now encouraging residents, local groups and stakeholders to share their views and help shape the future of the project.
Printed copies of the consultation questionnaire and summary green wheel document will be available throughout the consultation period at the Ampthill Town Council and Flitwick Town Council offices and at both Ampthill and Flitwick libraries. Engagement events will be held in Ampthill and Flitwick soon.

Central Bedfordshire is fortunate to have beautiful countryside, nature reserves and green spaces right on our doorstep. The green wheel would aim to help create better links between our towns and the surrounding countryside, making it easier for people to walk, cycle and enjoy the outdoors.
Over recent years, many people have rediscovered the value of spending time in nature and the positive impact it can have on both physical and mental wellbeing. This project is an opportunity to build on that and create lasting benefits for our communities and environment.
The proposed green wheel has been developed by Central Bedfordshire Council in partnership with Ampthill Town Council, Flitwick Town Council, Bedfordshire Rural Communities Charity (BedsRCC) and The Greensand Trust.
