Help with Council Tax

We appreciate that this is a difficult time for many residents and that the COVID-19 virus is having a significant impact on the economy too.

Your Council Tax pays for essential services which are delivered to residents, and these services are more important than ever. It is vital that if your circumstances have not changed that you continue to pay your Council Tax by maintaining your direct debit plan if you have one or the payment plan as detailed on your bill.

If you are struggling to pay your Council Tax, there is support available and we can help if you have been affected.

You should:

  • make sure you have claimed all of the benefits you are entitled to. For working age families this is Universal Credit from the DWP and Local Council Tax Support from the Council
  • get in touch with us. We encourage anyone who is struggling to contact us at so that we can offer assistance
  • we may be able to agree a revised instalment plan – please email with full details of your financial situation, including details of how you have been affected by the current situation, in order that we can consider your request
  • we can also look at any Council Tax arrears you have accrued so that we consider everything you owe us and avoid you incurring any additional costs
