Economic Insight

The purpose of this document is to provide a detailed analysis of the performance of Central Bedfordshire’s economy and it will primarily be used as the baseline data to inform the council’s new Economic Strategy. The Economic Insight not only presents a snap-shot of Central Bedfordshire’s economy, but also provides analysis and information on ‘why it matters’. It provides comparisons with the performance of neighbouring authorities and with national and regional trends. The Economic Insight will be refreshed annually so that the data is kept up-to-date.

Business survey

We need to understand the needs of local businesses, as part of developing a robust economic evidence base to inform strategic activity.

With SEMLEP, we commissioned Public Perspectives Ltd to conduct the survey, to find out what you think about:

  • local economic and business issues
  • what’s good and works well for you
  • what can be improved

The survey findings are a key tool in monitoring local economic conditions and in the development and delivery of economic development initiatives targeted to business needs. It covers the following issues:

  • quality of the local area as a business location
  • business engagement
  • business performance
  • employment, skills and training
  • innovation
  • SEMLEP
  • showcase sectors
