About the consultation
Consultation closes: 5pm, 3 July
We have recently been given funding in the region of £700,000 by the Department for Education (DfE), to be used to improve special provision for children and young people with education, health and care (EHC) plans.
This is in addition to £1.6 million of funding, given to us in 2018 by the DfE – with around £500,000 made available in each of the three years (2018-19, 2019-2020 and 2020-2021), for which we consulted on last year.
Support for special education needs and disabled children is provided in a variety of settings, for example special schools, mainstream schools, early years settings and further education colleges. Some Central Bedfordshire children also access support in schools outside of the Central Bedfordshire border.
The money is termed as capital funding, which means it can only be used to invest in adapting or expanding buildings and facilities.
We had already planned for creating more school places and making improvements to school facilities however, this additional funding means we can do more than we had planned.
This consultation is to help us decide how best to spend the full amount of allocated funding.
