Admission arrangements – school admission arrangements for 2024 to 2025

Consultation closed: Tuesday 31 January 2023
Consultation opened: Tuesday 20 December 2022

Current standard policy admission arrangements

We have a standard admissions policy which is used by the majority of the community and voluntary-controlled schools within Central Bedfordshire. Places are schools are typically allocated in the following order of priority:

  • all ‘looked-after’ children or children who were previously ‘looked-after’ including those children who appear to have been in state care outside of England and ceased to be in state care as a result of being adopted
  • children of staff
  • children living in the catchment area with siblings at the school
  • children living in the catchment area
  • children living outside the catchment area with siblings at the school
  • any other children

Proposed changes to admission arrangements

Leedon Lower School – proposed change to the admissions criteria

Leedon Lower School has requested a change to its admissions criteria. The proposed change is to reduce its published admission number (PAN) from 90 to 60.

In 2019, Leedon Lower School received an Ofsted rating of ‘Requires Improvement’. It's working toward improving that rating and believes that reducing its admission number to 60 will help with improving its Ofsted rating because finances and resources can then be focused on the actual number of students who attend the school.

This will not affect intake. There are currently 60 in reception and these statutory changes will align the school with what is currently happening.

Clipstone Brook Lower School – proposed change to the admissions criteria

Clipstone Brook Lower School has requested a change to its admissions criteria. The proposed change is to reduce its published admission number (PAN) from 75 to 60.

Reducing the published admission number (PAN) by 15 school places will not impact the overall provision of school places in the area, as there are sufficient school places.

Thornhill Primary School – proposed change to the admissions criteria

Thornhill Primary School has requested the school’s catchment area be amended to include the Linmere Housing Development where families living on the estate may want to send their children to the local primary school in the area.

The proposed amendment to Thornhill Primary School's catchment area is currently grassland and unpopulated. The area is proposed to have new housing in the future. The site is currently in the catchment of Chalton Lower School and in the short term would not affect pupil numbers at this school.
