About Central Bedfordshire
Central Bedfordshire is a safe and green place. Many people here have jobs and earn more money than people in other parts of the UK. People also tend to be healthier.
Most families are doing well. But some small areas—like parts of Dunstable, Houghton Regis, and Flitwick—face more challenges and need extra support.
The area is growing fast. New homes are being built, and more people are moving in. About 301,000 people live here now. That number is expected to grow by over 20% by 2031.
The number of older people is also rising. Today, around 18 out of every 100 people are aged 65 or older. That number has gone up by 29% in the last 10 years. It could grow by another 40% by 2035.
As people live longer, more need care and support. This puts pressure on local services. It's becoming harder to make sure the right help is ready at the right time.
We have big plans for the future. Our goal is to build strong, friendly communities and keep the area beautiful.
