The Queen’s Green Canopy
The planting of Queen’s Green Canopy project is now at an end. This legacy project will progressively create a fabulous tree covering in the name of the late Queen for the benefit of generations to come.
We proudly planted 234,000 trees in Bedfordshire and created 150 hectares of planting.
More than 4,000 people, from community groups, schools and organisations were actively engaged and no doubt many more individuals too.
We created a new approx. 70-acre wood, Queens Wood, just north of Ampthill.
Three individual trees of the 350 comprising the ceremonial ‘Tree of Trees’ living sculpture which featured as the first beacon to be lit by Her Majesty on the Platinum Jubilee weekend, have been planted in the county. The first to be planted is in Luton at the Peace Garden, the second in Ampthill Park and the third with Queen’s Park Community Organisation in Bedford.

The Lord Lieutenants Helen Nellis (retd) who started the project and Sue Lousada who saw it to its completion together with Rod J Calvert OBE DL who coordinated the county's efforts on behalf of the Lieutenancy, thank sincerely the many people of Bedfordshire who contributed so enthusiastically to this amazing legacy project.
