Staff Sergeant Florence Cordell - Beds & Herts Army Cadet Force
Staff Sergeant Cordell is a 4-star cadet and she is an excellent all round young person. Her turnout is always of the very highest standard, setting a good example for all other cadets. Her attendance on parade nights and Company training weekends is also excellent where she makes a positive contribution as Assistant Directing Staff.
Her constant hard work and professionalism in the detachment to inspire other cadets to achieve is her constant aim. As a cadet Staff Sergeant at New Cardington detachment, as well as being the senior Cadet, she supports the other cadets ensuring they complete their duties to the best of their ability. She is also a very active member within the County Corps of Drums and has inspired many from the detachment to join. She also represents the County at various national shooting events throughout the year.
Within the community, Staff Sergeant Cordell is always willing to volunteer and to support local community activities.
She has helped organise the local school fetes, collecting for the Poppy appeal, the Haynes car show, supported the main event for the Army Benevolent Fund and various other activities.
On becoming a Lord-Lieutenant Cadet, Staff Sergeant Cordell was ranked Cadet Sergeant. She subsequently gained promotion to Staff Sergeant in February 2019 and a further promotion in July 2019 to Company Sergeant Major.
Fire Cadet Jasmin Khanom - Bedfordshire Fire & Rescue Service
Jasmin has been a Fire Cadet for 3 years and is currently a Cadet Watch Manager. Jasmin started with the cadets as a very quiet reserved individual and her confidence and courage has grown from strength to strength. Jasmin is a willing volunteer who conducts herself in a professional manner and is always punctual. Jasmin was a member of the Luton Fire Cadet team that won the inter-county competition in 2016; that then went onto Nationals, coming close to third place in the whole country. She always gives 100% and will help everyone around her. Jasmin is a credit to herself, the Cadet Unit and her Community.
Within the community, Jasmin has achieved several awards including the winner of the Young Muslim Writers Awards 2014 and winner of the Young Achiever at Community Awards With an interest in politics, Jasmin is a Young Labour Member and she has taken part in a documentary about positive action in Luton, which is a government initiative.
Other positions held by Jasmin include Young Leaders UK/US Embassy, senior committee positions at various charities, volunteer for the Local Foodbank and Inspire FM Radio and nominated to be Team Leader of Human Appeal last year, Jasmin has spoken at several occasions to promote unity and has previously been a Hate Crime Ambassador with the Police.
Cadet Warrant Officer Ella Legg - Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire Wing ATC
Cadet Warrant Officer Legg is an inspirational cadet, demonstrating leadership skills within her unit at 10F (Luton Airport) Squadron and on the broader Corps stage.
Having completed her core training in radio, first aid, shooting and the wider Air Training Corps syllabus, Cadet Warrant Officer Legg now assists in the running of her squadron and passing on the knowledge gained. She has completed her Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award and is working towards her Silver.
Cadet Warrant Officer Legg has represented the Wing at Cross Country, Swimming, Netball and Athletics, and has set her sights on achieving region representation. She has graduated the National Air Cadet Leadership Course, but perhaps her most significant endeavours are in the drill and ceremonial world. More recently she was a member of the Central and East Region continuity drill team winning the first ever national competition at RAF Halton. Cadet Warrant Officer Legg’s ambition is to enter the RAF as a pilot.
In addition to participating in the charitable collections and attending civic parades for Battle of Britain and Remembrance, Cadet Warrant Officer Legg has been a lead member of the squadron's commitments to various local community charities. This includes the homeless charity, Signposts.
Cadet Corporal Alissa Morgan - St John Ambulance
Cpl Morgan has been a member of St John Ambulance for nine years. As a cadet, Cpl Morgan has always been involved with unit activities and as a non-commissioned officer, she helps the adult youth leader to run the training and activities within the unit.
Cpl Morgan mentors the younger members and plays a very active part in the management of the youth unit. The training she helps to deliver assists the younger members to achieve certificates in all subjects towards the Grand Prior Award which is the highest award a cadet can achieve. Cpl Morgan does all this whilst also aiming to achieve the Grand Prior Award.
Cpl Morgan has also been involved with the interviews for new Adult Youth Leaders, a role which she took very seriously and professionally.
Outside of St John Ambulance, Cpl Morgan has been studying for her GCSEs whilst also attending the Army Cadets, and attending first aid events within the community including the Bedford River Festival. Cpl Morgan has represented St John Ambulance at the Organ Donor Award Ceremonies over the past two years.
Cadet Sergeant Élodie Pierlot - Bedfordshire Sea Cadets
Sergeant Élodie Pierlot is an outstanding Royal Marine Cadet who has taken the natural role of leading the detachment.
Sergeant Pierlot quickly became and remains an inspiring role model for all Cadets, not only in the Unit but across Bedfordshire District.
Sergeant Pierlot attends all events seeking opportunities to qualify in the wide range of qualifications/experiences that Sea Cadets offers. Sergeant Pierlot has reached the Nationals in Sliding Seat Rowing, and impressively finished runner up at the Area Drill for the Guard Commander. Sergeant Pierlot is now working towards completing her Duke of Edinburgh Award.
Within the community, Sergeant Pierlot really shines, attending every event from bag packing, poppy collections with the Royal British Legion to the local Civic Service. She has a natural ability to confidently speak to a wide range people and is a proud Sea Cadet, and proud to stand in her community representing Sea Cadets.
Sergeant Pierlot has demonstrated substantial commitment and contribution to all aspects of Sea Cadets, within the Unit and the wider Bedfordshire Sea Cadets.
On becoming a Lord-Lieutenant Cadet, Sergeant Pierlot was ranked Cadet Corporal. She subsequently gained promotion to Cadet Sergeant in December 2018, which is the highest rank a Cadet can achieve in the Royal Marines Cadets. The promotion came following a rigorous assessment at the National Cadet Sergeants’ Board at Crowborough Army Training Camp.
Colour Sergeant Caleb Savery - Bedford Modern School Combined Cadet Force
Colour Sergeant Savery has been with Bedford Modern School Combined Cadet Force for 4 years and he has stood above his peers throughout. This has seen him recently appointed as the Senior Cadet of the Army Section of over 70 cadets as he comes to his final year. As a young man, he is thoughtful, measured, proactive and articulate. As a leader, he sets the bar high, continually demonstrating the highest standards of bearing, presentation and turn out. His high standards coupled with his natural kindness, ability to listen and his nurturing nature ensures he gets the best both from himself and from his fellow cadets. He is especially talented teaching and mentoring younger cadets.
In addition to his Combined Cadet Force responsibilities, he has just been appointed to a School Student Leadership role as a Senior Monitor, having held the appointment of Head Boy at Bedford Free School prior to his time at Bedford Modern School. His new role sees him supervising and mentoring younger students during his spare time. In the wider community, he has been volunteering at the "A Different Brew" Café project in Clapham, run by Bedford Opportunities for Learning Disabilities (BOLD). He has very much valued his time working in this environment and enjoys giving back to those less fortunate.
Police Cadet Cindy Ziu - Bedfordshire Police
Cindy is a committed and enthusiastic cadet who has excelled at every opportunity. Cindy has 100% attendance at training sessions and has volunteered for an impressive amount of hours on various crime prevention initiatives, assisted in test-purchasing operation, as well as assisting with various community events such as remembrance services, charity events and cultural festivals. Her participation in such events plays a vital role in the Police’s relationship with the public.
Cindy was part of a team of Cadets who slept outside for the night at Police Headquarters to raise awareness of homelessness and raised over £2000 for local charities. Cindy also took part in a Christmas shoebox appeal, collecting items useful items that were given to Prebend Day Centre.
Within the community, Cindy volunteers as a Sports Leader supporting and encouraging younger student to participate in sports. In particular Cindy worked with a young person with Special Needs, helping them to gain confidence and independence in sporting activities. Cindy excelled at this role and has received a Gold award in Sports Leadership. Cindy also volunteers as an umpire at Netball tournaments across the Country helping her to gain a Distinction in BTEC Sport qualification. Cindy has volunteered as a Community Champion in partnership with Morrisons to support and fundraise for Sue Ryder.
