How to recycle your coffee pods – Podback
We are working with Podback, the coffee pod recycling service. Podback is a not-for-profit organisation created by the leading coffee pod brands, to give pod coffee lovers simple and convenient ways to recycle. You can recycle your coffee, tea and hot chocolate pods at Podback drop-off points in local supermarkets.
How to recycle your coffee pods
At a recycling centre (HWRC)
You can collect your used pods at home in any bag or container. You don’t need to use Podback bags. If you use both aluminium and plastic pods, keep them separate. When you’re ready, take them to the centre and empty them loose into the correct Podback bin.
In-store drop-off
Podback is working with retailers to provide local drop-off points for Podback bags, so you can recycle used pods along with other items, like batteries and soft plastics.
Podback recycling bags are free – just order them from the Podback website.
Find your local drop-off point:
- use the Podback online recycle checker to find your nearest drop-off point
- click on that location for more details on how to recycle and follow the ‘Get a bag’ link to order your free Podback bags
- when your bag is full, seal it and drop it off at the chosen location
- free Podback bags are also available from the customer services desk at Morrisons Supermarkets, and when you order pods from Podback member brands
What happens to the pods I recycle?
Podback recycles plastic and aluminium pods, here in the UK. The coffee grounds are removed, and the plastic and aluminium are then transformed into new products, including beverage cans, plastic food trays and packaging crates. The coffee grounds are taken to a food waste recycling plant and transformed into renewable energy (biogas) and soil improver by a process called anaerobic digestion.
