Tree Tally

Tree Tally – Have you planted trees in the last 6 years?

We're building a picture of tree and hedge planting activity across Central Bedfordshire area since 2019 by inviting the public and landowners to take part in a Tree Tally.

Tell us about your planting projects today

Tree and hedge planting delivers powerful co-benefits such as improving air quality, locking in carbon, reducing flood risk, creating diverse habitats for wildlife, and improving public spaces. From planting a tree in your garden, to a small community orchard, or creating new woodland, these projects leave a lasting legacy for people and nature.

Our Sustainability Plan sets the aspiration to support the planting of 1 million trees across Central Bedfordshire, we have secured over £1.1 million of external funding for tree planting, and planted almost 90,000 trees and 8km of hedgerow. This includes the creation of 13 Miyawaki 'Tiny Forests', 2 public woodlands, a community orchard, over 1,300 street trees, and funding for 90 community-based projects.

Our 1-million-tree aspiration reflects planting carried out across the whole of Central Bedfordshire, including projects completed by us, our partners, public and private landowners, community organisations and groups, charities, educational institutions, and residents.

We invite everyone to take part in our Tree Tally to help build a picture of tree and hedge planting across Central Bedfordshire to date. Please tell us where you have planted trees by completing the Tree Tally survey today.

If you're interested in planting trees but not sure where to start, speak to us by emailing begreen@centralbedfordshire.gov.uk. A range of external funding schemes are available to support tree planting and we are happy to help you navigate them.
