Specialist SEND provision in mainstream schools

  • language impairments

Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASC)

Autism is a ‘spectrum condition’, meaning that it can differ a lot from person to person. Not all people with autism face the same challenges and they will be highly individual in their needs.

This variation is sometimes referred to being ‘high functioning’ or ‘low functioning’, which is a simple way of saying that some people with autism are able to function at a ‘high’ level, living relatively independent lives, whereas others have a ‘low’ level of day-to-day function, and need a great deal of support in many areas of their lives.
