Macmillan Money & More, Central Bedfordshire

Macmillan Money and More is a free, confidential and impartial advice service, delivered in partnership with us and Hertfordshire County Council. It is funded by Macmillan Cancer Support.

The Service has been delivering a successful advice service to people with a cancer diagnosis and their carers who live in Central Bedfordshire and Bedford Borough, since 2007. It has supported over 17,000 people in that time, securing more than £60 million in benefits and grant awards.

How the service can help

The service has a team of 5 advisers and 2 triage assistants to support patients and their families referred to us.

It provides advice, guidance and signposting, while also supporting clients with complex casework and advocacy.

Last year the service assisted with a range of welfare issues including:

  • applying for benefits and grants
  • challenging poor decision-making
  • challenging delays in processing disability benefit claims
  • reviewing award of premiums and additional elements in benefit claim
  • supporting housing applications on medical grounds
  • ensuring statutory and contractual sick pay is paid appropriately.

The service can also help secure grants from charitable organisations and benevolent funds. The team will also make referrals to occupational therapy services where appropriate, and can help with applying for a blue badge.
