Countryside sites - Flitwick Moor

Name

Flitwick Moor

Overview

Owned and managed jointly by Central Bedfordshire Council and The Wildlife Trust(link opens in new window), this is the most important wetland in Bedfordshire.  It was formed by peat cutting which took place until the 1960s.

The site contains a variety of habitats including oak and birch woodland, alder woodland in the wetter areas and fen and bog in the really wet places.  It is a haven for wildflowers such as meadowsweet, cotton grass and lady’s bedstraw as well as a huge variety of insect and bird life.
