Petition for pedestrian crossing and pavement improvements on Billington Road

Full details of the e-petition

I am writing to raise a request on behalf of the residents of Leighton Buzzard regarding pedestrian safety and accessibility along Billington Road.

Currently, there is no pedestrian crossing on Billington Road near the apartments at Lactans Edge. This makes it extremely difficult for residents to cross safely, especially those heading towards Sainsbury's and the nearby shops. The only safe option is to walk through the estate, taking a long detour to reach the pedestrian crossing near Sainsbury's. This significantly increases journey times for those on foot, particularly for families with young children, elderly residents, or people with reduced mobility.

We would like to request the installation of a pedestrian crossing at this point, approximately near this location:

Additionally, the footpath on the Roman Gate side of Billington Road, heading towards Sainsbury's, is currently uneven, overgrown, and almost impossible to walk on — particularly for local residents with pushchairs or wheelchairs. Improving the pavement would greatly benefit the community and encourage more people to walk instead of using their cars, contributing to a safer and greener neighbourhood.

Supporting details

This request is supported by several residents of the southern estates of Leighton Buzzard, who have also expressed concerns about pedestrian safety in the area.

We hope you will consider these requests and look into possible improvements to better support the growing community in this part of Leighton Buzzard.
