Oversubscription criteria
- all looked-after children and children who were previously looked after, including children who appear to have been in state care outside England and ceased to be in state care as a result of being adopted
- siblings
- pupils living in the catchment area who have siblings at the school
- children of staff employed by Brooklands School who the school reasonably considers were recruited to fill a vacant post for which there is a demonstrable skills shortage, or who have 2 or more years' service at the time of application
- children with very exceptional medical grounds
- children who have spent a significant amount of time, defined as 3 years or more, at a lower school in Leighton Buzzard, Linslade, Hockliffe or an outlying village such as Stanbridge, Totternhoe or Eaton Bray
- any other children
Definition of children who appear to have been in state care outside England
This applies to children who appear to have been in state care outside England and ceased to be in state care as a result of being adopted.
A child is regarded as having been in state care outside England if they were accommodated by a public authority, religious organisation or another care provider whose sole purpose is to benefit society.
Definition of very exceptional medical grounds
Very exceptional medical grounds apply where there are exceptional medical reasons that make it essential for a child to attend a particular school and where the preferred school is the only local school that can meet the child's needs.
A medical report from the child's doctor or consultant must be submitted with the application. It must explain why it is essential for the child to be admitted to the school and the difficulties that would be caused if the child attended another school.
The governors may seek further information to determine whether it is essential for the child to be admitted to the preferred school on medical grounds.
Medical grounds cannot be considered where the medical condition relates to a parent, carer, sibling, other relative or childminder.
