Suggest a topic - committees

Let us know your suggestion

If you have a suggestion for one of our committees, please email committeemeetings@centralbedfordshire.gov.uk.

Please note: Committees do not deal with individual complaints or personal cases. As committee meetings are usually held in public, they cannot normally consider matters that involve personal information. If you would like to make a complaint about a council service, officer or decision, please use our complaints and feedback process instead.

You can also share your views directly with councillors by attending a committee meeting and speaking during the public participation section, where this is available. Details of how to register to speak are included with each meeting agenda.

When we receive a suggestion, we will look at it and decide the best way to take it forward. For example, we may:

  • pass it to the relevant committee, Chair and Vice-Chair to consider for the committee's work programme
  • consider it as part of an item that is already due to be discussed at a future meeting
  • pass it to the relevant council service or partner
  • deal with it through another council process
  • provide information about work that is already taking place

About our committees' work programmes

Most of our committees have work programmes. These set out the topics they plan to discuss during the year.

Work programmes help committees focus on the issues where they can make the biggest difference. Topics are chosen to support the committee's role, reflect council priorities and respond to issues that matter to residents and communities.

Ideas and suggestions are welcome from:

  • councillors
  • town and parish councils
  • residents
  • partner organisations
  • council staff

Each committee decides its own work programme. When we receive a suggestion, we will make sure it is shared with the relevant committee. However, committees have a limited number of meetings each year and need to balance new suggestions with existing priorities and responsibilities. This means that not every suggestion will be added to the work programme or discussed as a separate agenda item.

Work programmes can change during the year as new issues arise. Sometimes a suggestion will already be covered by an item that is planned for a future meeting. In these cases, the committee may consider the suggestion as part of the planned discussion.

We encourage people to submit ideas throughout the year.
