We urge Central Bedfordshire Council to urgently investigate and implement:
Zonal 'Resident Access Only' Restrictions: Restrict vehicle entry on these specific residential roads during school peak hours to residents, emergency services, and deliveries only.
Comprehensive 'School Street' Schemes: Evaluate and implement formal 'School Street' closures for the worst-affected cul-de-sacs.
Active Parking and Idling Enforcement: Deploy Civil Enforcement Officers to regularly patrol the area, penalize illegal parking on dropped kerbs, and enforce anti-idling regulations.
The current situation across Toddington's residential network is entirely unsustainable. We demand the Council fulfills its statutory duty under the Highways Act 1980 to ensure safe, unobstructed access to public highways for all residents.

We, the undersigned residents and community members of Toddington, call upon Central Bedfordshire Council to take immediate, area-wide action to resolve the severe and dangerous traffic gridlock caused daily by the school runs near local schools (including St George’s Lowe School and Parkfields Middle School).
During morning drop-off (08:15–09:00) and afternoon pick-up (15:00–15:45) hours, multiple residential streets and cul-de-sacs are systematically overwhelmed by non-resident vehicles. This creates a daily dynamic obstruction that leaves residents trapped in their driveways, completely unable to leave for work or manage their own schedules.
The most severely impacted roads include, but are not limited to:
- Cheney Close
- Manor Road
- Elm Grove
- Leighton Road
- Chapel Close
- Mander Close
- Leigh Close
All surrounding residential cul-de-sacs used as pedestrian links to the schools.
